One track, three formats, no editor

Most releases now need more than one video: the long-form upload, a vertical clip for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, and often a square one. That is normally three trips through a video editor.

In oto-e you build the look once, then change the aspect ratio and the trim range and export again. All three ratios, trimming and fades are free — the paid tier is not about which formats you are allowed to use.

Why it looks musical, not just loud

Most visualizers drive everything from one amplitude envelope, so the whole screen pulses at once. oto-e separates harmonic and percussive content first, then runs onset detection per frequency band, so kick, snare and hi-hat drive three different things.

Colour can follow the music too: the palette tracks the chord the track is currently on, frame by frame. Or pull colours out of your artwork automatically and keep the video in the same palette as the cover.

  • Spiral Spectrum — one octave per turn, so the same note name always lands on the same angle.

  • Rings — a ring is born on every hi-hat, pulled inward by the kick, morphed by the snare.

Nothing leaves your machine

No upload

Audio and images are decoded and rendered inside your browser tab. There is no server to send them to — unreleased tracks, client stems and licensed samples stay where they are.

Faster than real time

Export is offline-rendered, not screen-recorded. A 4-minute track exports in roughly a quarter of its own running time on an M2 MacBook Air at 1080p / 30fps.

Do I need to install anything?

No. oto-e is a website. Open it, drop in an audio file, and export. There is no download, no plugin and no sign-up.

Is my music uploaded to a server?

No. Your audio and images are decoded and rendered inside your browser tab. There is no server to send them to, so unreleased tracks and licensed samples stay on your machine.

Can I make YouTube Shorts, Reels or TikTok videos?

Yes. Vertical 9:16 and square 1:1 export are free, along with landscape 16:9. You can trim any section of a track and add fades, so one track can become a long-form video and several short vertical clips without a video editor.

What does the free version actually export?

A real MP4 at 720p or 1080p, 24 or 30fps, in any of the three aspect ratios, with all 8 styles, trimming and fades. Free exports carry a small “oto-e” mark and the site URL in a corner.

What does Creator Pro add?

Creator Pro burns your track title, credit line and your own logo into the export, removes the watermark, unlocks resolutions up to 1440p and 60fps up to 1080p, and gives unlimited presets with JSON export. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.

Which browsers are supported?

MP4 export requires desktop Chrome or Edge, because it uses the WebCodecs API. Safari and mobile browsers cannot export.

Can I use the videos on a monetized channel or for clients?

Yes. Both the free version and Creator Pro may be used for personal and commercial video production. You are responsible for the rights to the audio and images you use.

What audio can I load?

WAV, MP3, AAC (m4a), FLAC and OGG, up to 60 minutes. Backgrounds can be PNG, JPEG, WebP or SVG — 1920×1080 or larger is recommended.

Where the name comes from: oto-e is Japanese — oto (音, sound) plus e (絵, picture). It is unrelated to the Otoe-Missouria people or Otoe County, Nebraska, which share the spelling.
